Childress Bobcats devour Dimmitt Bobcats
DIMMITT – The Childress Bobcats blanked the Dimmitt Bobcats 63-0 on Friday, Oct. 28 in Dimmitt.
“Friday night was a good night for the Childress Bobcats,” Athletic Director and Head Football Coach Bo Helm said. “We played the way we should have.”
That included with class.
“After the game I was told by the opposing coach that our kids played with more class than anyone else had against them,” Helm added. “That means more than the scoreboard.”
In addition to playing with class, the Cats are playing with confidence. Helm said the boys are practicing well, which had a direct correlation on the field.
“We are playing with a lot of confidence right now, and it has shown,” he said.
The Bobcats also played hard all night, said Defensive Coordinator Matthew Olson.
“I thought they ran to the ball and tackled well against Dimmitt,” Olson said. “Giving up zero points is a credit to the kids giving great effort and executing the game plan. I am very proud of the kids achieving this goal.”
The Bobcat defense only allowed the Dimmitt offense nine passing yards. They also intercepted the ball three times. Cornerback Billy Moore had one of the picks, Nick McMinn got another one and Isaiah Jalomo returned one for a touchdown.
“Our goal is to get the ball back to the offense as many times as we can in a ball game,” Olson said.
The kickoff team’s Jalomo and Cash Hightower also recovered two fumbles, Olson said.
While the Bobcat offense struggled early in the year, Offensive Coordinator Reid Ware is proud of them for sticking with it and continuing to improve every week.
“I feel like we are playing our best, as we prepare to finish out district and move into the postseason,” Ware said. “As far as scoring that many points, a huge contributor was the play of our defense and special teams.”
Ware said the Bobcat D gave the offense multiple short fields and extra possessions because of turnovers. “They have had a knack for taking the ball away all year,” he said.
Having multiple Cats get to the endzone is something Ware enjoyed seeing. Drake Rabe threw for 200 yards and three touchdowns.
Lamont Nickleberry led the Cats with 134 receiving yards and three touchdowns. He also threw a touchdown. Dareon Mathis lead the Cats with 157 rushing yards with two touchdowns. He also caught a 24-yard pass for a touchdown. Seth Taylor and Kyle Murphy Rusk also scored touchdowns.
“We are blessed to have really talented players,” Ware said. “We have to continue to find ways to get all of them involved.”
The Bobcats end district play on Friday, Nov. 4 against Friona, who is also 3-1 in district. Olson said the Cats have had a good week of practice and are ready to take the field on Friday.
“This is a big week for us to end district on senior night for our boys,” Helm said.
