FLOYDADA – The Childress Bobcats beat Idalou for the third time this season to win the Regional Quarterfinals 63-56 on Monday, Feb. 26 in Floydada.
“It’s difficult beating a team three times in a year, especially a good team like Idalou,” CHS Head Basketball Coach Wayne Parker said. “That game was such a battle.”
Aiden Allen lead the Cats with 16 points, and Jesus Jalomo followed with 15, Parker said. Billy Moore chipped in 12 points while Isaiah Jalomo had 10.
Parker said both teams hit big shots, back and forth. “Fortunately, we made enough of the right plays in that game to come out on top,” he said. “It’s always exciting advancing in the playoffs.”
As the reigning Region I-3A champions, the Cats (27-8) are headed back to the Region I-3A Tournament to face Holliday (32-2). They play at 6 p.m. on Friday, March 1 at Frenship High School to defend their title.
“We’ve been practicing hard and with a purpose trying to take away what Holliday does well,” Parker said. “These guys (Bobcats) are competitors.”
Parker said when the Bobcats compete like they do, good things happen. On top of that, he has five seniors who play huge roles. “They’ve played together for a long time now,” he said. “They’re not ready for their season to end.”
