Childress City Council honors Charter Amendment Committee
CHILDRESS – The Childress City Council members recognized the Charter Amendment Committee at their meeting on Monday, Oct. 17 at City Hall.
“We would like to thank them,” said Childress Mayor Cary Preston. “We appreciate everything you did for us.”
Preston presented committee members James Driver and Randy Allen with a gift. In addition to them, Jim Anders, Sue Haile and Chip Hall also served on the Charter Amendment Committee. They were unable to attend the meeting.
This committee wrote the Charter amendments, which are the 29 propositions on the Nov. 8 election. Voters will go to City Hall, located at 315 Commerce St., to vote.
Next on the agenda was the first reading of Ordinance 10242022 for the closing of alleys and streets. Tract 1 is a 680’ X 680’ tract of land, being all Groesbeck Park, between the streets of Ave. J and Ave. L and 6th St. and 8th in Northeast Childress. Tract 2 is all lots one through 24 in block 226 of the original plat. It passed.
The council also approved authorizing right-of-way abandonment of Ave. J NE adjacent to block 130 and alleyway in block 130.
Next up was approving a trash truck purchase for the Sanitation Department. They also approved issuing a tax note for the purchase of a compactor, front end loader, trash truck and street sweeper.
The council then opened the golf cart financing bid response from E-Z-GO. They approved exchanging 35 carts for 35 new ones.
