Since new owner Kandarp Patel helped cut the ribbon at Cottage Village’s Ribbon Cutting and Open House on Monday, Jan. 12, he’s been busy.
“It’s really exciting to be part of a community that’s growing, thriving and sustaining,” Kandarp said. “It definitely indicates to us this is a great institution to be part of and to add value to.”
They’ve already started improving processes on medication management. Before Kandarp bought Cottage Village, there was a paper and pen system, he said.
“We are trying to move that to a more computer-based system,” he explained. “We are tracking and making sure the medications being provided are available on time.”
Kandarp said he will look for processes to modernize for medication management in the facility through local partners.
“You never know,” he added. “Suddenly there is a need for a certain medication for a resident, and it’s on a Friday and the pharmacy is closing. Partnering with a local, community pharmacy is going to help us.”
On top of that, Kandarp is putting medical processes into place at Cottage Village he’s learned from other facilities he owns. “That’s going to improve outcomes as well,” he said.
When he’s not working on improving the medical side, he’s focusing on activities. This includes making sure residents are mobile and engaged in new activities or learning a new skill.
“I think it’s a very vital part of their wellbeing,” Kandarp said. “We definitely think there is need in this community to provide respectable quality care to the seniors, and our intent is to do that.”
To do all of these improvements and additions, Kandarp said a good staff is a must. He described the Cottage Village staff as amazing and selfless.
“We love the care they’re providing to our residents,” he said. “They know them really well, and the residents really like them. I feel it’s a good team delivering based on the needs of our residents.”
Kandarp said he wants to make sure the residents have a respectable place to live at Cottage Village. “Our staff is able to provide them the care they need,” he added.
These comments made Cottage Village Manager Carol Wilson smile. “We’re excited for the changes, knowing this is going to build us up better and help the community out more than what we already are,” she said.
Kandarp invites the community to visit Cottage Village, volunteers to lead activities and everyone to provide feedback.
“I like to see old things become new again,” Rep. Ken King said during his speech at Cottage Village’s Ribbon Cutting. “I’m just excited to see a reinvestment in this community, and it’s something you’re all going to benefit from.”
