If you want to vote in the Primary Elections on March 3, you need to check your eligibility.
Anyone planning on voting in the upcoming Primary Elections is encouraged to check their eligibility to vote because of a delay with the office of the Secretary of State.
“There are numerous voters assuming they are active but may need to verify their address or another issue,” Elections Administrator Jennifer Jones said. “This should be done ASAP.”
Childress County residents can do this by going to www.votetexas.gov or calling Jennifer at 940-937-6144 or 806-204-2181.
There is also a delay in getting the mass mailout of new voter registration cards that are normally mailed out in November every two years, Jennifer explained. “The State says that issue should be fixed any day,” she said.
However, a driver’s license or ID card substitutes for the voter registration card. “A lot of people should be receiving address confirmations in the mail soon,” Jennifer said. The deadline to register is Feb. 2, so those need to be returned ASAP.”
Early voting starts Feb. 17 and goes through Election Day on March 3. All precincts will vote at the 501 Event Center (formally Women’s Department Club) during early voting and on Election Day.
“There will be a lot of changes started to be implemented due to Senate Bill 2743,” Jennifer added. “Some changes will be integrated starting with this election, such as having a single poll place for all precincts.”
Early voting hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 17 to Friday, Feb. 20 and 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 23 to Friday, Feb. 27. Election Day voting hours are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 3.
Jennifer said they need poll workers. It pays $12 an hour with flexible schedules and paid training. You must be a register voter in Childress County. If you’re interested, please contact Jennifer at 806-204-2181.
