Sneakers in memory and in honor of cancer patients cover the gym windows at the CHS gym.
The SUITS AND SNEAKERS fundraiser, which benefits We Can Care, a local organization that supports Childress County residents with cancer, is on Tuesday, Jan. 20 at the Childress High School gym.
The coaching staffs from Childress High School and River Road High School will don suits and sneakers to express solidarity with those affected by cancer. They will honor individuals impacted by cancer by displaying paper sneakers with their names, We Can Care member Barbara Sue Parr said.
“The sneakers are $1 and can be in memory of a loved one or in honor of a loved one,” explained Barbara Sue, who is helping with the fundraiser. The paper sneakers will be displayed on the gym windows. “We want to sell as many as we can in advance so we can cover the gym windows.”
It’s not too late to purchase a sneaker. Payments can be made in cash or via Venmo at @Barbara-Parr-77. Barbara Sue will decorate the shoe for you.
Sneaker cutouts will also be available for purchase at the game. The Lady Cats game starts at 6:15 p.m., and the Bobcats game follows at 7:30 p.m.
“All proceeds will go to We Can Care for help to our patients,” she said.
Childress We Can Care helps cancer patients in Childress County travel to their doctor appointments by giving them gas cards, Barbara Sue said. The organization also pays for their overnight stays when possible and needed.
