Childress High School has a new digital marquee thanks to First United Bank.
“We want to thank First United Bank for their sponsorship and their continued support,” Childress Independent School District Superintendent Mark Dykes said.
When I asked him what people’s reactions have been to the sign, Dykes responded with, “It’s new, it’s fresh and has a new look to it, so everybody loves it.”
This is music to First United Bank Vice President and Branch Manager Alabama Bohannon’s ears.
“First United Bank is glad to give back to the school,” he explained. “We put a big emphasis on giving back to the community, and especially, the school districts.”
Bohannon said they know school districts are the backbone of small towns. “Teachers and the administration mean the world to us,” he said. “We’re always here to help and support in whatever way we can.”
This donation is near and dear to Bohannon’s heart. The son of teachers in Wellington, he said school districts mean the world to him personally, even living a hop, skip and jump from his hometown.
“We chose to move here,” said Bohannon, who moved to Childress with his wife two years ago. “It wasn’t just the luck of the draw. We love it here.”
He said everybody is friendly and has welcomed them with open arms. “We’re just going to do what we can to get back and do what needs to be done,” Bohannon said.
First United Bank Vice President Taylor Thornton echoed that. “We (First United Bank) were founded in a small, rural community,” he said. “That’s what we do. We give back to the communities we serve, and the school district being a very vital, important part of this community, we’re glad and happy to give back in whatever ways we can.”
