Texas 4-H Foundation Christmas card will feature Jentry Souder’s artwork

CHILDRESS – Jentry Souder’s artwork will grace the Texas 4-H Foundation Christmas card this year.

“It was a lot of fun to get to do it,” she said. “I love art, and I thought it was a great opportunity to have fun getting to practice it.”

She won the Junior Division of the Texas 4H Foundation Christmas card contest. Jentry said she honestly didn’t think she had a chance to win.

“I was really surprised, because I knew a lot of people had probably entered in it,”Jentry explained. “I was also one of the youngest in my category. But I was also really excited and happy.”

She wasn’t the only one.

“I love being on the sidelines,” said her mother Nikki Souder. “I love watching her either play music or art. She’s such a little artist in all different ways.”

When I asked Jentry about her design, I thought she was a professional when she answer my question.

“I knew I wanted to do watercolor because that has always been my favorite type of art to do,” Jentry explained. While she knew she wanted to put the 4-H clover on the design somewhere, she contemplated just where.

“I thought it might be cool if I used it with little red berries, like on a hat or something,” Jentry said. “That’s where I got the idea for the snowman.”

Jentry said she didn’t want anything that was too busy. “I wanted something kind of simple but that was still Christmassy,” she added.

The answer was simple.

“I decided on a snowman, because that didn’t have to have a whole lot of detail in color,” Jentry said. “It would also be something really fun to do using watercolor.”
